For anyone out there struggling with ttf2subf and freetype, freetype-plan9.tgz is the fully functional tarball, including the subpixel rendering mode, which is missing in most other distributions of freetype+ttf2subf.

The SHA1 sum of the archive linked, which is also in theory available elsewhere is: 948a3d20617e557ea004d96910b13d128eec6cff.

If you have a Linux system available, you’ll get better results (and easier) using sigrid’s ttfs.
